Group Hierarchy

WP Automator supports nested groups for complex organizations:

Parent Groups

Top-level groups that can contain:

  • Multiple child groups
  • Direct site assignments
  • Inherited settings to children

Child Groups

Sub-groups that:

  • Inherit parent settings (can be overridden)
  • Maintain their own site collections
  • Support up to 3 levels of nesting

Best Practice: Use parent groups for clients and child groups for their different projects or site types.

Best Practices

Organizational Strategies

  1. Client-Based Groups: One group per client with sub-groups for projects
  2. Niche-Based Groups: Group sites by content type or industry
  3. Performance-Based Groups: Separate high-traffic from low-traffic sites
  4. Geographic Groups: Organize by target market or language

Naming Conventions

Use clear, consistent naming:

  • Include client/project identifier
  • Add site count in brackets: "Tech Blogs [12]"
  • Use prefixes for types: "BLOG-", "SHOP-", "NEWS-"
  • Include year for time-based groups: "2024-Q1-Campaign"

Pro Tip: Use emoji in group names for visual scanning: 🛍️ E-commerce, 📰 News, 📚 Blogs
