Requirements
What you actually need to use WP Automator
Here's what you actually need. No fluff.
The Bare Minimum
WordPress Requirements
Must have:
- WordPress 5.6+ (for app passwords)
- Admin or Editor access
- Permalinks NOT set to "Plain"
- REST API working (it's on by default)
Nice to have:
- HTTPS (required for app passwords on live sites)
- No aggressive security plugins
- Decent hosting (shared hosting works fine)
Quick check: Go to yoursite.com/wp-json
- if you see JSON data, REST API works.
That's It
Seriously, that's all you need on the WordPress side. No special plugins, no complex setup.
Your Browser
Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Any version from the last 2 years works.
That's it. No special requirements.
Money Requirements
Real Costs
Minimum: $49/month for Starter plan
- 1,000 articles
- 10 sites max
- That's $0.05 per article
Worth it if:
- You'll actually use 100+ articles/month
- You value time over money
- You have a content strategy
Not worth it if:
- You need < 50 articles/month
- You expect perfect content
- $49/month is a stretch
No free trial currently. You pay upfront. Cancel anytime but no refunds.
What We Handle
You don't need any API keys. We handle:
- All content generation technology
- All the technical backend stuff
You just need WordPress and money.
Security Reality
What We Do
- Encrypt your WordPress passwords
- Use secure connections
- Don't store unnecessary data
What You Should Do
- Use application passwords (not your main password)
- Keep WordPress updated
- Have backups (always have backups)
- Use strong passwords
App passwords are safe: They can only post content, not access admin settings or install plugins.
Performance Notes
Your Site Speed Doesn't Matter
WP Automator connects via API. Whether your site loads in 1 second or 10 seconds doesn't affect article generation.
What Does Matter
- REST API responds (most hosts are fine)
- You're not rate-limited
- Basic WordPress functionality works
Any decent host works: SiteGround, Bluehost, WP Engine, whatever. We're just posting articles, not launching rockets.
Version Compatibility
WordPress: 5.6 or newer (need app passwords) PHP: Whatever WordPress requires MySQL: Whatever WordPress requires
If WordPress works, WP Automator works.
Common Problems
"Can't Connect to WordPress"
- Wrong URL format - Include https://
- Wrong credentials - Username, not email
- Spaces in password - Remove ALL spaces
- Security plugin - Disable temporarily
"No Application Passwords Section"
- No HTTPS - Need SSL or use localhost
- Old WordPress - Need 5.6+
- Hidden by plugin - Check security settings
- Disabled by host - Contact support
"Articles Not Publishing"
- Wrong user role - Need Editor or Admin
- Category doesn't exist - Check trash
- Cache not cleared - Purge cache
Quick Checks
Test REST API
Go to: https://yoursite.com/wp-json
- See JSON? It works.
- See 404? Permalinks are wrong.
- See forbidden? Security plugin blocking.
Test Application Passwords
- Go to Users → Your Profile
- Scroll to bottom
- See "Application Passwords"? You're good.
- Don't see it? Need HTTPS or WordPress 5.6+
Still Confused?
Quick reality check:
- Have WordPress 5.6+? ✓
- Can log into WordPress admin? ✓
- Have $49/month? ✓
You're ready. Stop overthinking.
Bottom line: If you can log into WordPress and have $49, you can use WP Automator. Everything else is details.
