WP Automator
Getting Started

Quick Start Guide

Actually quick setup to your first AI article

Get your first AI article published quickly. No BS, just the steps.

Real talk: This is the fastest path to getting started. Budget 10 minutes for the full setup.

Prerequisites

You need:

  1. WordPress admin access
  2. WordPress 5.6+ (for app passwords)
  3. A subscription plan (see pricing)

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Sign Up

  1. Go to WP Automator signup
  2. Enter email and password
  3. Pick a plan (see pricing for options)
  4. Enter payment info
  5. Hit subscribe

You'll land on the dashboard.

Step 2: Get WordPress App Password

In WordPress admin:

  1. Go to Users → Your Profile
  2. Scroll to bottom
  3. Find Application Passwords section
  4. Type "WP Automator" in the name field
  5. Click Add New
  6. COPY THE PASSWORD - looks like: xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx

Don't close this page! WordPress won't show this password again.

Can't see Application Passwords?

  • Need HTTPS (or localhost)
  • Need WordPress 5.6+
  • Security plugins might block it - disable temporarily

Step 3: Connect Your Site

Back in WP Automator:

  1. Click Add New Site

  2. Fill in:

    • Site Name: Whatever you want
    • Site URL: Your WordPress URL (with https://)
    • Username: Your WordPress username (NOT email)
    • App Password: Paste password (remove spaces)
  3. Click Test Connection

    • Green = Good
    • Red = Wrong credentials or URL
  4. Click Add Site

Common mistakes:

  • Using email instead of username
  • Forgetting https://
  • Not removing spaces from password

Step 4: Skip Settings

Seriously, skip this for now.

Defaults are fine:

  • 1500 words
  • Publishes immediately

You can tweak later.

Step 5: Generate Your First Article

  1. Click Generate Content
  2. Enter a topic (the AI will generate the title)
  3. Leave everything else default
  4. Click Generate Article
  5. Wait 20 seconds
  6. Done - check your WordPress site

The content will be generic. This is a test. Real articles need better prompts and editing.

Did It Work?

Check these places:

  1. WordPress Admin → Posts → Your article should be there
  2. Your Website → Should show on homepage
  3. WP Automator → Dashboard shows "1 article today"

If not there, check WordPress Trash - might have gone there if category doesn't exist.

When Things Go Wrong

"Connection Failed"

  • Wrong URL: Must include https://
  • Wrong username: Use username, not email
  • Wrong password: Remove ALL spaces
  • REST API blocked: Disable security plugins temporarily

"Article Not Showing"

  • Check WordPress Trash
  • Clear your cache
  • Check if it's a draft instead of published
  • Make sure permalinks aren't set to "Plain"

"App Password Not Available"

  • Need WordPress 5.6+
  • Need HTTPS (or localhost)
  • Some hosts disable it - contact support

What to Do Next

Test the AI Quality

Generate a few more articles with different topics. The AI will create titles automatically based on your topics.

See what works and what doesn't.

Reality Check

  • AI content is generic - Needs editing
  • Facts might be wrong - Always verify
  • No brand voice - Sounds like everyone else
  • SEO is basic - Not optimized for competitive keywords

When to Scale Up

Only add more sites after you:

  1. Understand the content quality
  2. Have an editing workflow
  3. Know which topics work
  4. Accept the limitations

Your Limits

Starter Plan: 1,000 articles/month

  • That's ~33 per day
  • Resets on billing date
  • Word count doesn't affect limit

Still Stuck?

Common fixes:

  1. Disable security plugins temporarily
  2. Check WordPress version (need 5.6+)
  3. Try with a test site first
  4. Use admin account (not editor)

If nothing works:

Congrats! You just published AI content. Now the real work begins: making it actually good.
